The generations that discovered and felt Kerouac in these latitudes had much more trivial experiences of “the great blue sky”. Hills and mountains, whether for climbing or skiing, always meant hanging around with accidental “fellow sufferers”, accepting the unwritten rules of a big family and rudimentary social and architectural aesthetics. Interestingly, leisure technology has made lightning progress, while social and architectural parameters can provide more or less the same. It is a paradox that architecture was not the first to follow the trends, where the price of a state-of-the-art product necessary for “active leisure” and all its related snobbery has reached the price of a modest second-hand car. It is an even greater paradox that all the owners of such leisure products are quite calmly putting up with heavy hiking shoes, goulash and other relics of past decades.
